Martin & Beccy

Martin & Beccy are a couple in their later 50s / early 60s. Martin was made redundant from local government and spent some time, after his redundancy, working on a consultancy basis because, frankly, he found it hard to give up work completely.

By engaging with them both (and a fair amount of nagging!), we showed them what their future financial position would look like if he gave up work altogether NOW.

This was powerful and Martin soon came to terms with finishing work so they’re now officially ‘a couple of leisure’!

They recently bought a camper van and enjoy lots of time away in it. They’ve also had a couple of big trips abroad, most recently South-east Asia for 2 months which, they said, was amazing. I envy them greatly, however, I suppose, in a way I have to own up to being slightly responsible!

Mick & Angela

Mick retired a few years ago from a job he once loved but, as the years went on, he became less and less keen on it! We helped him & Angela to understand what the financial impact of retirement would be for Mick and the news was good. They could afford for him to retire and they would never have to worry about money!

Next, we needed to work on Angela. She’s been a teaching assistant for many years but enjoyed her work so didn’t want to retire at the same time as Mick. That said, as she’s got older, she’s felt more and more keen to give up but they were both worried about the impact of losing her income.

We were able to show them that, even if Angela finished work, they could still afford to do everything they want to and not run out of money. Angela has a passion for arts & crafts and Mick loves working on his long-distance radio. They also love travelling in Ireland.

They’re happy and relaxed, knowing they’ll never run out of money!...

Shirlie & Malcolm

By their own admittance, Shirlie & Malcolm are pretty normal people. They don’t have big plans for their future and are content with a ‘simple’ lifestyle. That said, it doesn’t mean they don’t share the same concerns that we all do, namely, can they afford their lifestyle without ever running out of money?

They’re cautious people who have saved all their working lives. Their daughter and son have grown up so it’s just them. They like to have weekends away and Shirlie sure does love her curries! They go out for an Indian at least once a week (but usually more).

Shirlie & Malcolm needed reassurance. They needed to know that they were going to be OK. We’ve worked with them for some years now and remind them constantly that they’re going to be OK for money. We help them keep track on things and we remind them that, if they want, they can push the boat out a bit.

A significant wedding anniversary is coming up and they’re likely to splash out on a lovely cruise, safe in the knowledge that their robust financial plan for the future won’t be affected. We’re so happy for them!
